What are the RAF Air Cadets?

The RAF Air Cadets are a uniformed youth organisation, under the guidance of the Royal Air Force. Formed in 1941, it is open to young men and women alike from the age of 13. Our aims are:

-To promote and encourage among young men and women a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force.
-To provide training which will be useful in both the services and civil life.
-To foster the spirit of adventure.
-To develop the qualities of leadership and good citizenship.

What do we do?

Activities are varied and should appeal to most youngsters both male and female. At Felixstowe we we teach First Aid, Orienteering, Camp craft, Rifle Shooting, Citizenship training, Radio Communications and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, as well as preparing them for Flying and Gliding lessons. We are training a marching band and take part in various field exercises, regular sports events, adventure training and social activities like ice skating, laser quest, fund raising and many other events. Opportunities exist for Mountain Training, Outward Bound Centres, Parachuting, Overseas Flights and camps both at RAF stations at home or abroad. We are involved in the BTEC awards and it is usual for our cadets to achieve at least one or more of these formally recognised qualifications if they remain with us for about 3 years. The possibilities are endless all you have to do is to give it a try.
