On a beautiful sunny Saturday, cadets and staff from 356 Felixstowe Squadron took part in the nearby Trimley Carnival procession on the 11th July 2015.
The cadets were on a small float with an RAF type Landrover towing the trailer/float. Built into the trailer was a replica RAF Sea King Helicopter of no.22 Sqn, which was built by the staff at No.432 Woodbridge Squadron - Air Training Corps.
All the floats were judged before the procession started, and we were VERY pleased to be awarded the “Best Small Procession Participant” of 2015.
The streets were lined with hundreds of people and although there were not enough buckets to go round, cadets improvised using flight helmets and berets, to collect money for the Carnival Committee, who will be distributing the money raised to local charities.
After the procession, the cadets and staff manned a recruitment stand which also gave the opportunity for children (and adults) to try on RAF uniforms and hats.
We met some interesting people and have made many contacts within the local area.
Cadet Sergeant Nat Adams, who took part in the procession, said “A thoroughly enjoyable day, of events were we can show off what we do within air cadets and expand our connections to the community.”
It was very poignant that we had the Sea King with us, as they are being retired from Search and Rescue (SAR) Role at the end of this July, so we wanted to say a big thank you to all the SAR’s team past and present.
